Fresh Pulasa

Original price was: ₹2,551.Current price is: ₹2,319.

Fresh Pulasa is a seasonal luxury—one that evokes memories of riverbank markets and monsoon bounty. Caught during specific months from Godavari’s backwaters, it’s often considered more exclusive than Hilsa in Andhra cuisine.

Pulasa’s natural fattiness and buttery texture make it ideal for slow-roasted or mustard-oil-based delicacies.

Description

Pulasa (or Polasa) is a highly seasonal river fish found during peak monsoons in the Godavari delta. Its scarcity and rich taste make it a gastronomic event in coastal Andhra households. The hype around its availability often drives prices into the thousands per kilo.

Its flesh is soft, aromatic, and melts in the mouth—earning it comparisons to the more famous Hilsa, albeit with less bone density and more yield.

Culinary traditions treat Pulasa with utmost respect. It’s gently marinated in native spices and simmered in a tamarind-laced gravy or wrapped in turmeric leaves for steaming.

Beyond taste, Pulasa is cherished for its cultural roots—it brings families together, marks feasting season, and is even gifted to VIPs as a sign of honor.
